We are located on Mays Rd 2 mins from the highway for easy access. We have 6 foot high fenced pens, 1/2 acre in size each. Inside brand new, large, luxury kennels at night.

If you're going away - don't send your dog to a "kennel" - send them on their own vacation! We believe dogs need to run and play, not sit in a cage all day! Give your dog an exciting, stimulating vacation.

Cedar Ridge is located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley, Duncan, BC on 27 stunning acres. Cedar Ridge is one of the only facilities in the Cowichan Valley where dogs can be outside running and playing not couped up in a warehouse or cage. We believe dogs should not spend their days locked up. Our dogs enjoy a property filled with large Cedar & Fir trees, pasture, running and playing. Each dog is fed and sleeps in their own area where they are able to see their friends. We place each dog near a dog they liked during the day. The dogs are tired from a day of playing and sleep quietly with their friends around them.

Our dogs spend most of their day in one of our 4 play yards. We divide dogs by size, play styles and energy level. Dogs must be well socialized to be in this environment. All dogs require a doggy trial prior to boarding to view temperament and allow your dog to feel comfortable prior to your vacation. This starts with a 1 hour trial and then for boarding a 24 hour trial if they show nice doggie etiquette during the 1 hour trial.

Our dogs are our best testimonials. Most dogs know they are coming to play as soon as their owner's turn onto Mays Rd. You will be amazed to see how excited your dog will be when he comes back again and again to Cedar Ridge. Your dog will have his own vacation or "second home"!

A 1 hour trial AND an Overnight trial BEFORE boarding your dog-we will assess your dog for temperment with people, other dogs & their behaviour in a kennel.

*The trial is in NO way a guarantee that you can book your dog in when you go away-your dog must PASS first. We do not tolerate any problem behaviours and will be picky on who we take, as it is for the welfare of everyone staying at Cedar Ridge. PLEASE BOOK THE TRIAL FAR IN ADVANCE!*

Shots up to date (DHLPP & Bordetella-"kennel cough") Please vaccinate with Bordatella (prefer the Intranasal) at least 4 days prior to stay. We gladly except Titer tests.

Deworming done regularly. We will also except if your dog is dewormed herbally (you must present us with the brand of herbal dewormer)

Your dog MUST be neutered or spayed, unless they are less than 6 months of age. We recommend only mature puppies coming to daycare or boarding when they are younger than 6 months. It really will depend on the pup.

Be free of parasites, worms, fleas, mites & any other contagious aliment (such as an eye infection)

Due to bad experiences and the nature of the breeds we will no longer be accepting Huskies, Malamutes or Akitas.

If your dog is aggressive, whether dominance or fear based, we will recommend training with us or otherwise before boarding. Most aggression cases can be solved with the proper training and consistency in the dog's life. Due to our open play style set up with NO kennel runs we can not accept aggressive or poor social skills. Your dog must be well socialized with experience and/or comfortable with dogs in a pack-like setting.

Your dog should respond to the command "Come" or "Come here" or his/her name or warmly respond to strange people.

Your dog must be relatively obedient and free of major problem behaviors (for example: non-stop barking, chewing, digging, fence climber, fence jumper etc). We provide a safe, fun environment for well mannered, socialized dogs. We are very selective. Not every dog is suitable for daycare and we don't take any chances. If we have any doubts about a dog's suitability, we will turn them away. We also go for quality, not quantity. Our goal is not to fit as many dogs into daycare/boarding as we possibly can. Instead, we want the atmosphere to be relaxed, positive and pleasant for all our guests!

If your pup sounds like he does not meet the social etiquette requirements please see our TRAINING PAGE

Our facility consists of 1/2 acre pens (half grass, half forest) for the dogs to run in together nestled on 27 beautiful acres. The ratio is generally 10-15 dogs per 18,000 sq ft. Most dogs think this is a great big dog park! No cement pads with rows of barking dogs.

The dogs are outside in the large pens during the day, come in at dinner time for dinner & a rest, then out at bedtime for a romp & potty time, back in all night for bed.

HOLIDAY CLOSURES: Although we will still be caring for our guests, our facility will be closed to the public on all STAT/National Holidays.

Small dogs have their own areas (indoor & outdoor) unless they normally play with large dogs and may do so with owner's permission.

Tana the ShepX: All of our services-when Tana started coming to daycare we noticed a VERY insecure dog, after only a few daycare sessions we told his owners that something needed to change in order for him to continue in daycare and for his own well being. They did training with Sabrina and Tana is now a welcomed, calm, fun daycare boy!

We are very grateful for the work Rob and Sabrina have and continue to do with Tana and us. We found Tana through the SPCA when he was 8 weeks old. We talked with numerous friends who had dogs and read several books about training and over the first 6 months he was with us, attempted to put actions in place to train Tana but there was a number of reoccurring problem.  Tana would pull on the leash and lunge at other dogs, off the leash he had problems socializing with other dogs, often he would chew on our deck and fence when we were not home, he would jump up when he met new people and he was easily distracted After 4 sessions with Sabrina, our household and relationship with Tana has improved immensely. In fact, he is a very different dog. By spending time with Sabrina and practicing her methods, we have developed a ‘mature’ dog that listens to commands and looks for leadership. We are more relaxed and he is more relaxed because Tana knows who is alpha and who is in charge. The support that Sabrina and Rob provide is the extra that we greatly appreciate. During each lesson, Sabrina gave us tasks to practice with Tana and then enough time between each session with her to master these actions. Results were important for Sabrina and not just getting the classes done. If Tana was not ready for the next set of instructions, lessons were changed and delayed until the correct time. In addition to the training at Cedar Ridge, we have used the day care and boarding services. During this time, Tana has received more training and individual attention. Tana just keeps getting better the more time he spends at Cedar Ridge.

Sabrina and Rob, thanks for your attention to detail and quality of service!

Fia: Pointer that comes for regular Daycare & training:

"Hi I'm Kathy Jackson and I have a very active German Wire Haired Pointer named Fia. Thanks to Sabrina at Cedar Ridge-dog day care, spa and training center, we have a very happy puppy and a much better behaved dog in our home to love. Sabrina is so helpful and full of ideas; what is best for this dog, what works with this type of dog ect. I have been thrilled with Fia's progress and hope to work on agility next with Sabrina. I can't say enough of how much it has helped to have our puppy at Cedar Ridge, Fia has fun and we reep the benefits at home. Try your dog at the farm, it's a fun social outing for all. Any age dog would benefit from such surroundings. Feel free to call us any time 250-748-8790" Kathy and Fia in Duncan.

Kobi the Keeshond: Uses Cedar Ridge for grooming, boarding, daycare & training:

It all started for me about 2 years when I needed to find a new groomer for my 2 Keeshonden (Kobi and Keesha) as their current groomer could no longer groom them because of the strain on her shoulder with all their fur.  So I went looking and found Sabrina and Rob at Cedar Ridge Complete Canine Care.  In my case having double coated dogs required constant brushing almost every second day.

When I started taking my dogs to Sabrina for grooming, we talked about their coats and trying to manage it all without it being such a chore.  Taking Sabrina’s advice I agreed to start having them clipped a bit instead of having the long coats.  The difference was unbelievable and so much easier to maintain.  From grooming we expanded to a number of their other services that they provide, daycare sessions for social mingling, some longer term kennel stays, to using the herbs recommended by Sabrina for my dog Keesha who had a kidney problem.  For about 8 months the herbs worked fantastically, the swelling and heat went down in the area and Keesha seemed to be doing great.  Unfortunately the old girl decided that enough was enough and no longer would take any food with the herbs or any medication in it.  Sadly Keesha had to be put to rest leaving a grieving owner and sister pack mate, which brought new issues.

Kobi started acting out 2 months after Keesha was put down, she no longer would listen to me, would constantly test and would no longer come to me when I called, and would become super stressed and neurotic, very frustrating to deal with.  The best thing I did was to talk to Sabrina about the problems and decided on a course of action of one on one training sessions.  The training was not only for Kobi but for me too, I needed to learn just as much and change the things I was doing wrong and learn how to deal with only one dog now not two.  Kobi and I went for 4 training sessions and we practiced in between the sessions and it has made all the difference.  It was hard because we were trying to change some things that I had done and accepted from her for 10 years.  It was a learning curve for me as much as it was for Kobi.  Kobi is 100% better than she was before – not saying she is perfect, she isn’t, but at 10 years old when we started her training sessions she has done really well.  So for those that say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, I say yes you can!  Kobi can now be let off her leash and when I call her she stops and comes back.  She will now stay and hold either in a sit or down position for more than 5 to 10 minutes if instructed.  She still gets a bit distracted at times but life is so much better for the both of us.  The training sessions were the best thing I ever did.

Just recently I noticed that Kobi too has swelling in the kidney area and we are starting the herbs and will hope that this extends her life. Kobi is a frisky energetic 10 ½ year old now and I know she has many more years to go.  Thanks to Sabrina I have an alternative way to treat her problem without all the side effects of prescription medication.

As of January 2008 I will be leaving the Cowichan Valley to move up island however I still plan to board Kobi at Cedar Ridge when I go away on long trips.  Every couple of months when Kobi needs a bath and grooming I will be bringing her down for her appointment.   When you find a place you like and trust you don’t want to give it up.

From someone that has utilized a number of the services that Cedar Ridge provides I couldn’t be happier with the treatment both my dogs and I have received over the years.

Thanks Sabrina and Rob,

Michele Porter

Zoe the boxer: Uses daycare, boarding & training at Cedar Ridge. Zoe started showing signs of insecure dominance (common in dogs these days) very early on but we nipped it in the bud pretty quick and she was able to continue attending daycare. Her people did 4 sessions of training with us. Her owner, David, wrote two versions of Zoe's story-very cute!....

Cheeky version:

Boxer Zoe was slipping into the darkness of bad manners when she met Sabrina. She was confused, unsure of her role in life and was starting to crack. An aggressive growl here, an angry box there, rudeness and disregard was threatening to shatter her domestic life. In four easy sessions and with a bit of coaxing from her masters, Sabrina laid out a shiny new path for the little boxer and within months Zoe was happy and content. Now, she sniffs bums and stays away from the bad crowd, she sits and lies on command and she is true example for other lost boxers in the world. Thanks Sabrina!

Non cheeky version:

Sabrina was a life saver - I have a boxer, Zoe, that started life as a show dog and didn't have much socialization. Sabrina taught Zoe how to interact with other dogs and people and just as important, taught me how to interact with Zoe. It was an intensive two month process, but Sabrina's leadership and skill with dogs made it fairly painless. Zoe and I say thanks - ruff ruff.

This section is for clients that have sadly passed on. They are all special to us.

Chloe started coming to us shortly after her owner's got her from the SPCA. She was a charm to have in daycare and boarding. She really helped bring her shy housemate out of his shell. Cedar Ridge was like Chloe's second home. We will miss her greatly. She was taken from this life far too young. Rest in peace Miss "Chlo".

Joey the Shepherd came to us for boarding & grooming. He was a wonderful boy to have around. He was a Collie wannabe hanging out on the deck with them during the day. We enjoyed Joey immensely and will miss him. Rest in peace Big guy.

This Rhodesian Ridgeback was a dream to have at our place. Tag came along to do everything on the farm, got along wonderfully with all dogs and slept calmly in our bedroom at night. Sadly he lost his life due to liver disease, he will always hold a special place in our hearts. What a sweet boy.

Max was a Black Lab that lost a leg very young due to being hit by a car. This 3-legged guy did amazing! He kept up with everyone, even for a senior! He loved coming to our farm while his mom went on long trips. Max ended up passing from cancer. We miss the guy who everyone wanted to take home!
