OUR MER! Rest in peace big guy!

Recovery has been a wonderful asset to our rescue as the majority
of dogs we take in are seniors. They have all reaped the benefits
in the form of joint care (arthritis), coat health & a new
lease on life.

THAT'LL
DO BORDER COLLIE RESCUE

Our
Blue beauty! Her name is pronouced "Keena". Our 9 yr old
lovable teddy bear! She is a real sweetie-we HAD to adopt her-plus
we LOVE Blue Merles!

Shaddy
the Showoff as he is regularly called by many people! Our 5 yr old
dufus-he is actually quite smart but does not outwardly portray
it!

Merlin
recently passed away-July1-07.
Merlin is our "old fart". He is 12 yrs
old. He is a very laidback, wonderful boy! We love him dearly, it
feels as though we have had Mer all his life! All 3 of our "stinkies"
are St John Therapy Dog Certified-they LOVE visiting people in need
of a smile!

SUCCESS STORIES
This
was the Collie that started it all! He was not a rescue though.
When Sabrina was a teenager her parents wanted to purchase
a Collie pup. They found Colinton Collies in Duncan. Zak was
the loner pup laying the corner sleeping while the others
were jumping everywhere. There was really no choice in which
pup to take because all the others were sold. That loner lump
turned out to be the best friend anyone could have ever had.
He was calm, LOYAL, a true best friend. Zak passed away at
age 9 due to a lung clot. This was absolutely devastating
to Sabrina and he will be forever missed but never forgotten-the
Collie Rescue is DEDICATED TO ZAK.

A
beautiful 6 month old Sable Merle puppy we got out of a shelter.
She had minor disabilites-sight problems and nervousness-probably
due to poor breeding. Ellie was adopted to an older couple
only to be returned 4 months later because she was too much
puppy for them. Ellie is now living in Vancouver with a Great
Dane (with a defective jaw), Labradoodle, 3 other Collies
(one is deaf & has limited vision)

This
old boy came to us under special circumstances. He was a sweet,
laidback, gentleman that passed away soon after he came to
us. He touched our heart deeply-Sabrina believes that Zak
shone through in him. Rest in Peace sweet man.

These
old boys (age nine) were litter mates that adored each other.
Their owner was moving and was unable to take them. When they
came to us Merlin was quite overweight and Casey was emaciated.
Casey was quite sick-vomitting, diarrhea, rarely eating and
lethargic. (these photos of him were rare to catch a good
moment) Casey was in our care for 9 days before having to
put him to sleep. We had run all sorts of tests only to find
out it was cancer and he was physically not able to withstand
surgery. Merlin was devastated-moving to a new place, leaving
his owner behind and losing his brother all in one shot. It
was very hard on him. Merlin came through his depression after
about two weeks. We adopted Mer ourselves-he recently passed
away at age 12.5. He graced our lives for 3 yrs. He was a
wonderful man. Rest in peace Mer Mers.

This
senior girl came to us from a couple in Victoria that had
fostered her for a year after she was seized from a breeder
along with other Collies in need. Lassie was a typical "kennel
dog" having little or no bathroom manners, liked to get
into garbage and needed to learn about human & other dog's
personal space. She was with us for 5 months before being
adopted-not many people are interested in the seniors! Lassie
was eventually adopted by a wonderful couple in Port Hardy
that already had 3 rescued mixed breed dogs-Lass now named
Sassy & fits in wonderfully. Lassie recently passed away
at the approx age of 11. Rest in peace little girl.

A
senior that came to us from a Northern BC SPCA. She was reportedly
abandoned by her family-found as a stray. She came to us in
terrible shape-her coat was one big matte, she had a bladder
infection due to urinary incontinence and she was much older
than calculated by the SPCA. We got her cleaned up and hoped
she would find a home to live out her days but she did not.
BamBam lived her old life out with us. She was the sweetest
little Collie we have ever met. We had her for 6 months before
she had to be put to rest. We estimated Bam as being 14 or
15 years old!

Yet
another senior-a Collie X this time-that also came from a
Northern BC SPCA who was also found as a stray-they believed
Ralph to actually be a stray who had no place to call his
own. He was skinny, matted, extremely skittish and had a terrible
limp. Ralph had to go in for crutiate surgery (a dog's hind
"knee") While he was under he had his teeth cleaned
and a tumor removed from his shoulder. Ralphie learned to
trust people from time spent with us. He was a wonderful boy
once his personality came out. Okanagan Collie Rescue stepped
up to do physical therapy (Rehab) for Ralph-he went to Vancouver
which is where he was adopted after his rehab.

This
"puppy brained" boy came to us from a shelter. He
was given up at 14 months old. At this point the shelter became
a revolving door for him-he was brought back 5 times in a
matter of months for several reasons which he has never displayed
with us. Rob fell in love with Shadow instantly so he was
our second addition to our family in 2004. Shadow has more energy than most Collies but he is smart, obedient and
loyal. He is Sabrina's "demo" dog for training, as he loves showing others his advanced obedience.

A
very cheeky Collie cross that came to us from a shelter. This
puppy had no manners and his thick coat was so matted that
he had to be shaved right down. He was adopted to a wonderful
family up island.

She
came to us from someone who had been breeding and showing
Collies since 1967. He was no longer able to care for his
two Collies so he placed them with us. Kyna came with her
mate Rhys. They were both quite nervous dogs when they arrived
having a life of showing & living in a kennel did not
expose them to enough. Sabrina had always wanted a Blue Merle
so she thought she might adopt Kyna herself-after getting
to know the dog it was definate! Kyna became part of our family
in 2005. She still remains in her original owners name and
he comes to visit ALL the time. Kyna is a show champion. She
has quite the playful, adorable, cuddly personality now!

This
large boy came to us under the same circumstances as Kyna.
Rhys came around a little from his nervous ways but he was
very slow to trust. He was adopted to a couple up island that
have had collies for a long, long time. He went to live on
a farm with another collie. Rhys recently passed away due
to cancer. Rest in peace handsome boy.

Finnean
was "bought" by Sabrina so she could get him out
of living outdoors 24/7, not being groomed, no vet care and
really no love given. We had adopters lined up for him that
fell in love! He was a big, lovable teddy bear that seemed
to fit in anywhere. Unfortunately Finn started to get very
sick about a month after Jaime & Ingrid got him. It was
baffling because he was only 2 years old and it seemed to
come on so suddenly. After lots of tests and waiting Finn
was put to rest due to cancer. Jaime & Ingrid were devastated-they
had fallen so deeply in love.
Sabrina was on a mission to fill the void
in Jaime & Ingrid's life. She finally found a Collie cross
puppy in Alberta at Misty Creek Dog Rescue. She flew the pup
in and surprised the couple with this fluffy boy. He has turned
out to be wonderful for them-they were truly ecstatic! They
will forever miss Finnean but love him through Logan.
Finnean

Logan (as a pup & growing!)

This
Collie/Corgi cross came to us as an owner surrender. The owner
had her since a pup but since she had her baby Gizmo was getting
more and more aggressive towards the child. With their second
on the way she wanted the dog to go. Giz was nicely groomed
(very rare when we get the rescues in!), but overweight, had
no leash manners, had some dog aggression, was extremely scared
of the camera and riding in the car! So we worked these quirks
out, the camera & car issue had to be solved with crating
in the car and hiding the camera, then adopted her to a great
couple in Qualicum Beach.

An
11 year old girl that was left in a kennel while her owner looked
for a home for her. Tara had been with her owners her whole
life until the wife of the family passed away then she was no
longer wanted. Tara settled in with us very quickly, her personality
was quite unique-very cheeky & playful-she kept up with
the youngest! Tara has found a home to call her own in Victoria.

This
5 year old girl was given up due to a shortage in accommodation
available that allow pets-this is a common occurrence these
days! Jessie is a Collie/SheltieX-with the excitability of
the Sheltie for the ball outside yet laidback inside. She
went to a loving home in Vancouver.

A
5 year old boy that was surrendered due to aggression between
him and his father (dog) An extremely happy-go-lucky guy who
LOVES people and will practicly wiggly out of his own body
for some love! He loves truck rides, playing in the ocean
& hanging out with his people. Landon was adopted to a
wonderful local couple who live on 4 acres (Duncan)

A
senior boy we liked to call "Stormin' Norman"! He
was given up due to annoying & odd behaviour which ceased
to exist when he came into our care-we are not sure why he
became "normal" with us. He is a sweet old man who
is very happy in his new home. We are so fortunate (and so
are the Collies) when people are willing to take on the beautiful,
loving seniors!
Storm has passed on to Collie Heaven-RIP big guy!

A young boy
who seemed older due to having severe Collie Eye Anomaly.
Henry is a sweet dog who was surrendered as his people were
moving from acreage to an appartment and did not think it
was fair to him. Henry was here for a long time as everyone
passed him up due to his eyes. He was finally adopted to a
wonderful lady who had recently lost her beloved Collie. He
is a happy couch potato now!

Tedrix is a
Smooth Collie that came to us due to divorce. He came in a
very dominant dog that had no manners with people or other
dogs. After spending a lot of training time with him he turned
into a great boy. Tedrix loves to play ball and help out on
the farm. He has been adopted to a loving local family that
have horses and another dog.

This
senior boy came to us under special circumstances. He is a
happy-go-lucky boy that loved to play with other dogs and
never acted his age! He is happy in his new home with a large
family and another dog.

At
only a year this puppy-like girl came in with energy to burn
and manners to learn! Rain was adopted to the same couple
that adopted Landon. Rain has been a wonderful addition as
Landon fully accepts her (he did not tolerate all dogs) and
they love to play.

Maggie came to us with her litter mate brother as a surrender due to divorce. Maggie was the more dominant of the two and Maxx fed off of her anxiously, so we decided it was best to separate them. Mags was shaved due to coat condition. Maggie is loving her new home with 2 Shih Tzus & her new people.

Maxx was adopted by a wonderful family with a toddler and a small dog. Maxx is watching over the little girl like a nanny!

6 yr old Hamish was adopted by the same wonderful lady that had adopted Storm from us. Unsure if she was ready for another, all she had to do was meet Hamish to fall in love! He was a loving boy with a few behavioural issues due to a noisy home with too many children pestering him. Hamish needed peace, consistency & routine in his life which helped his neurotic tendencies immensely.

Others we have helped-the Collie wanna-be's!
